About the Author

My interest in writing began because of English Class, which was strange, because I didn’t particularly enjoy English Class.

Back in ninth grade I’d just moved to a new city and found myself in a gigantic high school with a class of 800 other people. My English class moved at a snail’s pace and some days I found myself sitting around with nothing to do. So, one day, I pulled out a notepad and started writing. I had an idea in my head and my teacher didn’t stop me, so off I went. I’d write in English class then come home and retype everything on a computer in the evening, and sometime around the next summer, I found myself with a book on my hands.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t a very good book. The plot was iffy, the characterization was poor, and I had no idea how to properly punctuate (still don't). More fortunately, when I showed it to my mom, she said it was ok, and didn’t crush my newfound dreams.

So I kept on going, writing in my free time through high school, then college, then after work. About nine manuscripts later, I got to the point where I could pawn off my stuff on other people in my family and they didn’t politely pass.

That was when I got the idea for a book about Elijah, I’d been talking with a few people at church and they floated the concept. I don’t think they imagined what I would come up with, but over the next several months I was either working in the day or writing in the evening. Through some miracle, after four months I ended up with a an actual completed manuscript.

I’d tried to get published before the traditional way. All that netted me was a list of 100 literary agents all of whom didn’t want me. So, I did what everyone tells you not to do in that situation. I decided I believed in the book enough to self-publish it.

And surprise of surprises, thanks to you readers, the book has done fantastically.

So What's Next?

In Author Circles (and also Hollywood) the thing to do once you have one hit is to immediately write a sequel. Unfortunately, I'm not entirely sure I could. Elijah was a unique book. I'd like to write another story like it, but I don't want to lose the magic that made it special. I have a few ideas in progress, but in the short term, I'd like to tell another, very different sort of story.

Even as a kid, I've always been fascinated with outer space, and so I'd like to introduce my newest book, STARBOUND. It is a sci-fi space adventure, currently in it's final stages of editing, and is scheduled to be released in the next few months.
